Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson who were both lawyers. As a young girl of just five years old and moved to Oxfordshire and enrolled in an Oxfordshire-based Dragon School. At the age of six, Emma knew she was going to become an actor and for a number of years she trained at the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theater school, where she learned performing and singing. Through a school play as well as an Stagecoach show, she took her role as lead actress at 10 and performed. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, the 2001 film version to J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was cast in 1999. Agents for casting found Emma through her Oxford theatre teacher. David Heyman announced to Emma that after eight consecutive auditions, she and Rupert Grint were chosen as Hermione and Harry Potter. Emma's film debut came with the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2002). The film set records for opening-day sales and opening-weekend takings and became the top-grossing movie of the year 2001. Reviewers were awed by the film and its performance. The Daily Telegraph, an important British newspaper, called Emma's performances "amazing". Emma was awarded five nominations for her outstanding performance. In the end, she received the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actress of the Film.
